“My name is Cody Diamond, I’m a fourth year student in the Biology program here at MUN. I came to St. John’s with the hopes of completing my undergraduate degree and eventually attending the Medical School here. Being a doctor in rural Newfoundland is my dream, and having access to affordable education is crucial to achieving it. School has always been a financial challenge for me as I do not qualify for student loans. I have had to rely on my family and line of credit with high interest rates for the financial support I need. When I eventually attend Medical School, the fees will once again be an obstacle for me to attain my education. Increasing tuition fees is not only raising financial barriers to education for the students of this province, but it is indirectly creating barriers to services such as health care in this province by inhibiting the training of new, young professionals! ”
